Struggle for freedom is a seven month long Literacy/Social Studies unit that  gives students opportunities to explore themes of justice, and civil rights through the use of fiction and non-fiction support texts.

Students will be transformed both academically and emotionally throughout the unit as they gain understanding of our nation's history and the long fight for African-Americans for both inclusion and equity in society.

Ultimately, students will synthesize the answer to our Essential Question: How does the legacy of slavery shape and influence the modern politics, education, and culture of the United States?
